Heart Wise
True wisdom of the heart comes precious high,
The smallest bit is worth a least a sigh;
And only those who’ve known a love and lost,
Can know how many tears such wisdom cost.
At such a price of grief and pain and tears
These hearts of ours grow wiser through the years;
A bitter price - so oft not understood -
Yet I think we’d not change it if we could.
For with each bit of wisdom it has known,
We find the heart has deeper, warmer grown.
Our life is strangely richer for each loss -
And resurrection follows still the cross.
