This Is The Road
This is the road the Master took,
Rugged and rough and worn,
The road that led to Calvary
Through shouts of hate and scorn.
This is the road the Christians took,
Rock-strewn and deep with mire,
The road upon the pyre.
This is the road the pilgrims took,
Beset by endless fears,
The road that led to liberty
Of worship down the years.
This is the road we, too, must take
If we would go His way,
A road made free for you and me
Who follow it today.
And may we never underrate
Those pioneers who trod
This selfsame road that beckons us
To climb the hills to God.
